HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

As we celebrate IWD 2022, Stella Gakii, our Finance and Administration Manager, talks about what inspires her, what barriers she has faced during her career path and what hopes she has for the future.

What does IWD mean to you?
It's a day we celebrate all women all over the world for their contributions to the betterment of our kind, their achievements and for simply being the amazing women they truly are.
What does the 2022 IWD Slogan #BreakTheBias mean for you?
Break the Bias is the fight to see every woman respected and treated with dignity regardless of her race and social status and upbringing. Women can scale to higher heights when we remove the boundaries society has placed on them.
Who is your biggest influence?
My Mum- she has and continues to be a huge and amazing positive influence in my life.
What barriers did you face as a woman to become successful in your field?
Mmmhhh...Having to prove your worth, balancing being a young mum and career. Now my boys are grown and it's easier. But you can tell that men don't go through the same challenges as we do.
If you could give one piece of advice to your younger self, what would it be?
Trust the process. Don't overthink things but instead prepare and set the foundation or base for your life. It takes time to create a masterpiece. Enjoy the present as you prepare for the future.
What's next for you and your career?
To grow to be a CFO in the next chapter.
Anything else you would like to add?
You have to put in the hours/work. There is no shortcut. At times it gets hard but hey that's where your inner circle comes in to walk the journey with you. Seek out mentors who offer guidance (for those who have gone before you) and always remember that with one life to live, you are not supposed to negotiate your humanity with anybody.
